Best AI model for translation (October 2026)
Updated Oct 29, 2026 · Based on public comments from Aug 29, 2026 to Oct 28, 2026
Translation gets fewer public opinions than coding or writing, so this page has only a few ranked models. We counted comments from people who used a model to translate or check translations, including former professional translators.
Best overall: Gemini 4 Argon, liked for fixing and reviewing translations and for summarizing foreign-language text.
Best open model: Gemma 4, which many call the standard open model for translation.
Worth knowing: One former translator found Claude Opus 5.5 slightly better than Argon on tough Polish sentences. Specialist translation models may beat small Gemma builds.

How this ranking works
We read public comments about AI models posted between Aug 29, 2026 and Oct 28, 2026, kept the ones that judged a specific model version on this task, and labeled each as positive, mixed or negative. Each person counts at most a few times, and bots and off-topic mentions are left out. Rankings show what users report, not lab benchmarks, and a loud minority can sway small samples.
